Getting Rid of that Old Hot Tub

Demo 1

Do you have an old hot tub you would like to replace or just remove? Well, if you don’t intend on giving the tub away, trying to resell, or aren’t simply wanting to move it, the best way to remove a hot tub is to take a Sawzall to it. However, the process is a little more complicated than simply cutting up the spa into pieces and hauling it off. Here are some tips for you that might help you tackle this task:

Step 1 – Take Another Look at the Instruction Manual

Re-read the manual for the tub and familiarize yourself with all the spa’s original construction. You will need to have a good idea of all the electrical components that are involved, how the water heater is wired, and how the gas lines work (should yours have them). Knowing these details will ensure your safety and help protect you while disassembling your spa for removal from your property. If you would rather someone else handles this for you call the team at Clean Junk Out and get an estimate for removal.

Step 2 – Unplug Electrical Wiring

Unplug all electrical hook-ups and/or gas lines. Make sure you remove all of these gas and/or electrical components before doing anything else. After doing this one should only be dealing with a wooden frame for the spa and the spa bed, which likely will be made from some fiberglass, plexiglass, or some other molded plastic material that can be cut. If you would rather someone else handles this for you call the team at Clean Junk Out and get an estimate for removal.

Removing all electrical cords and wiring is very important because otherwise, you might be in for a shock if you cut into a live wire with your saw.

Step 3 – Disassemble Spa Skirt

Remove any screws or nails that might hold the tub to a frame. Sometimes Jacuzzi tubs are built with wooden slats connected via a tongue-and-groove configuration. Should this be the case, you can take apart the skirt for those tubs easy enough with no need to use the saw to cut apart those individual slats. If you would rather someone else handles this for you call the team at Clean Junk Out and get an estimate for removal.

Step 4 – Disassemble Tub

The most difficult part of this removal process will be in breaking up the actual hot tub, which will be one single piece of plastic or another durable material. For this, you will need to don safety gear and cut it up with your Sawzall. This process will be messy as it will produce lots of dust and debris as you saw into the tub. Cut up the tub into small enough pieces so you can carry them out of the yard and into a dumpster. If you would rather someone else handles this for you call the team at Clean Junk Out and get an estimate for removal. Let’s see how this should work:

Be sure to wear proper safety gear at all times while cutting up the tub. You should have on heavy work gloves, sturdy clothing (absolutely no shorts or sandals for this job) and safety goggles. You may also consider wearing a safety mask to avoid breathing in any unwanted materials that might be floating around during this removal.

So, if you would rather have someone else handle this for you call Office Manager Shunt K. at Clean Junk Out and get an estimate for removal. They can handle the entire job, or just come and remove the pieces once you have had the fun of cutting up that old tub yourself. Either way, getting rid of your junk tub just got easier.
