Interiors That Make or Break Your Home

A local interior designer shares practical advice for decorating your home

Since we spend most of our time inside our homes, having an interior space that complements our lifestyles and activities is essential.

That is, imagine that you invite a few friends over for good music and good conversation. If spontaneous dance sessions have been known to happen in the past, then an interior with a lot of open space without clunky objects to trip over will be very important.

Or say that watching movies over beverages is more your style. Then having an interior with seating that will facilitate television watching while still keeping the room easy to maneuver in will be important. Interiors should, of course, be set up to match the preferences and proclivities of an individual.

When designing your interiors, it is also important to keep the effective use of space in mind. Interiors are limited by the square feet of rooms. That is, there is only so much that can fit into interiors. As such, interiors should be set up to use minimal yet sufficient space.

An individual’s well-being is also an essential aspect to keep in mind when designing interiors. This includes anything ranging from an individual’s emotional well-being with the design and layout of an interior to an individual’s physical well-being. An interior should be pleasing to an individual’s eye yet remain complementary to an individual’s physicality.  Stools may look nice in a certain interior, but they will not do very well in the home of an individual who needs the added back support.

Additionally, as mentioned earlier, functionality of design is also essential to interiors. Sofas arranged in a closed square may facilitate conversation amongst people groups once they have sat down, but getting seated may be difficult. Of course, this is an exaggerated example to prove a simple point: you still need to be able to get around seamlessly throughout your interiors.
